Vaginal itching and exterior bleeding

I am post-menopause. I often have vaginal itching - I shower daily, wear cotton underwear, etc....all of the things that are recommended to keep the vagina in optimal condition. I feel like I have a small tear sometimes. It has occasionally bled, but not often. This morning, however, I had more bleeding from the exterior wall of the vagina. I am wondering if this is typical for a post-menopausal woman, an anomoly of old, dry skin? Or, is it something that I should have examined? There has been no trauma to the area that would have caused the bleeding - it began after showering and drying off. Thank you.
